How Much Longer Will We Have to Wait?

We’ve passed the 41 week mark. Still waiting on the baby to arrive. Feeling a little frustrated, but realizing that a few days here or there won’t matter much in the long run. It’s just that I arranged with my employer to have lots of time to spend with the baby this month. I’m losing that time. Sometimes, it’s hard to adapt to the way things are versus the way you wish they would be.

Christmas is nine days away. My wife and I have both wondered if being born so close to Christmas will have a negative impact on our child in the years to come. God, I hope not.

In the spirit of thinking positively and focusing on blessing, I invited our family over to the house after church today to pray over my wife and our baby. My mother-in-law operated the video camera. I wanted to capture prayers and prophetic words over our child on video. I want this person to know he/she had a destiny chosen by God before he/she was even born.

It was a wonderful moment. All six of us prayed and shared what we heard the Holy Spirit saying. Then we laid hands on my wife and her belly and prayed blessing and protection over both of them. It’s a moment I will cherish forever.

No one wants to feel like an accident, though many of us feel like we were. Parents often do very little to communicate how much we were wanted and hoped for. We each get our first taste of purpose from knowing that we were not accidents, but planned. I want each child of mine to know how we planned their births and spoke God’s plans and purposes over their lives before they were even born. There is something magical about history that begins before birth.

This is yet another example of something we had the opportunity to do because our baby has not yet been born. There are blessings and deeply meaningful moments to be had each day, if we will only choose to seek them out instead of focusing on our disappointment and lack of patience. Children are a reward. They are a blessing. God told us so. For me, the question is no longer “When will the baby FINALLY be here?” but “How can we do something meaningful and purposeful for our baby today?” Let’s create amazing pre-birth memories to pave the way for a wonderful birthing and life.
